Traditional Use
Pao pereira (Geissospermum Vellosii, or Geissospermum leave Velloso), also spelled Pau pereira, is a well-known tree, native to South America. This plant has been used by Indian tribes to support their immune system at the onset of fevers. The first official monograph on the benefits of Pao pereira was presented on December 7, 1848 by Ezequiel Correa Dos Santos at the Faculty of Medicine of Rio de Janeiro. In 1933, in Milan, Italy, Pao pereira was recommended as a tonic and a febrifuge.*
Mirko Beljanski PhD (1923 - 1998)
Dr. Mirko Beljanski, a French scientist working at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, perfected an extract that would induce apoptosis of abnormal cells without toxicity to healthy cells.* Several publications of his Pao pereira extract, which he called PB-100 (Pao pereira Beljanski 100), are dedicated to its mechanism of action and health benefits. In 1996, a dear friend and collaborator of Dr. Beljanski, C. Marcowith, M.D., passed away, leaving behind notes on the use of Pao pereira in modern medicine.
